I have a complaint

I am a Good Dog. Mom started teaching me manners the first day she brought me home. Mom and I studied with our trainer Tameka,  and I mastered Basic Obedience, Intermediate Obedience, and Advanced Obedience. I passed my Canine Good Citizen exam two years ago! Mom can take me anywhere.

Anywhere, that is, that the Rules will let her take me!

One of the places I can’t go with Mom is to the mall. Dogs Not Allowed. Last night, Mom had to go there, and I had to stay home. But when Mom got home, she told me what happened there.

Mom needed a new phone, so she went to the phone store. While she was looking at phones on display against a wall, there were two human kids beside her. They were too little to be buying a phone, they were just waiting while their mom or dad was doing something else. At first they were just looking. Then they pulled the phone out and started pushing buttons and stuff on it.

And then they were climbing up the wall, and shouting, and waving their arms! Finally one of the store people came over and made them stop.

I ever act like that! I’m quiet and polite, and when there’s lots of people and activity, I stick close to Mom.

Tell me again why two-leg children can go to the mall with their moms, and I can’t go there with mine?

One Hardworking Day

Saturday was a very busy day for me. It wasn’t all work; it started off with playtime with Josie, in her yard. I always have fun in Josie’s yard

And Josie never minds if I play with her squirrels

After that, of course, I had to have a B-A-T-H. Which is not fair! But I suppose I really wouldn’t have wanted to visit my friends at the nursing home with muddy feet. Cuz that’s what we did next, we went to the nursing home for Pet Therapy. Mom says Pet Therapy is Important Work, and I guess it is, because everyone there is always so happy to see me and the nurses always make sure to tell me who really needs a visit. But I gotta admit, it’s really a lot of fun! Everyone is nice, and I get lots of pets and treats! I don’t got any pictures of that today, because we can’t always take pictures at the nursing home. Mom says we have to “be thoughtful and considerate” about who we ask for pictures and when, there.

But I am usually pretty tired by the time we’re done, so I was really surprised when Mom said that after we were going to something called Derryfest. It turns out Derryfest is a big, noisy fair, with booths and music and some games and what Mom called “fair food.” I didn’t get to eat any of that “fair food”; Mom had the silly opinion that I didn’t need any! There weren’t as many dogs as at Pet Rock last week, but I did meet a cute pair of extremely well-dressed poodle mixes:

Mom and I had to help out, sitting at the Greater Derry Humane Society table, and answering questions and helping people. This is a terrible picture, you can hardly see me, but it’s the best I have. Silly humans!

My other big responsibility was what Mom calls “meet and greet,” and to show people that a dog doesn’t have to be adopted as a puppy to be a wonderful family member. That was fun, because I got lots of petting, and lots of it was from little kids, who are always great!  I love little kids!

While I was doing that, a woman in the booth next to us came over and asked if I could help her son. He’s really, really scared of dogs, and his mom wants to help him recover from this terrible, crippling condition.  She asked if I could sit still and be especially calm and gentle for him. Of course Mom and I both said yes! I had to be very, very patient, but he finally petted me!

I had to look away from  him, because if I looked at him, he got too scared.  But I guess I did really well, because later he brought some of his friends over to meet me!

So that was my busy day, and I was totally exhausted after working so hard! I slept all the way home.

Stuff I like to do

Since it’s just barely possible someone may read this who doesn’t already know the full extent of my Awesomeness, I thought I’d tell you about some of the things I like to do to spread my Awesomeness around. Along with some friends from the Greater Derry Humane Society, my Mom and I visit a nursing home so we can give the peoples there some Happiness.

Addy, a Chinese Crested Dog, with a human friend

Another thing I do is have Mom drive me to Adoption Day events, so that I can help other dogs and cats find their forever homes. Here’s me dogging the table at one of the Pelham Adoption Days:

It’s hard work, but it’s worth it!

But I spread my Awesomeness by just having plain old fun, too! My friend Puccini and I got all silly for the Fourth of July two years ago:

I visit my friend Josie for playtime at least once a week:

And once in a while, Mom takes me to a dog festival, like Pet Rock, where I get to see some of my other friends. Here’s a picture of me with Einie and Opie:

And when I get home after all this fun, being a Princess, and Awesome, I get to sleep anywhere I want–even on the cat tree!

Am I not Awesome?
